Goliad County Release Meanings
A release from Goliad County Jail is an administrative event. Jail staff end that booking episode and record the time, reason, authority, and, when applicable, the agency that received the person. The event does not always mean freedom from custody. Bond, sentence completion, time served, dismissal, or another court order may return someone to the community. A transfer to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, another jail, the U.S. Marshals Service, or immigration custody keeps the person confined under a new authority.
The source must match the question. The sheriff's booking and release record is closest to the jail door. A signed court order explains the legal result. TDCJ, the Federal Bureau of Prisons, ICE, and USMS each report only their own custody. Texas VINE can send a prompt event notice, but it is not a certified release record. A sound finding identifies the agency, quotes its status, and avoids changing “transferred” into “released to the community.”
- Time served
- A sentence or credit that may satisfy the jail term, subject to clearance of other holds.
- Parole
- Conditional community release from a state prison sentence under TDCJ supervision.
- Probation
- A court sentence served in the community, called community supervision in Texas.
- Discharge
- The end of a sentence or supervision, which may occur after physical release.
- Detainer
- A notice that another authority may take custody or block a community release.
Goliad County Release Types
One short code can hide a crucial distinction. Ask the Sheriff's Office for the code legend rather than guessing. Bond permits a pretrial departure but leaves the case pending. A dismissal ends a charge, though another case or hold may remain. “Court ordered” identifies the authority, not the full reason. The signed order may concern bond, jail credit, dismissal, or another event.
| Recorded event | What it means | Where to check next |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or personal bond | The person leaves pretrial custody under set terms. | Sheriff release log and the active court case. |
| Time served or sentence complete | The local term may be satisfied after holds clear. | Signed judgment plus actual jail exit time. |
| Probation | The court orders community supervision. | Court order and local supervision office. |
| TDCJ transfer | County custody ends while state custody begins. | TDCJ current-inmate search and records channels. |
| Federal or ICE pickup | Another sovereign takes custody. | BOP, ICE, USMS, or federal court, as applicable. |
| Dismissal or acquittal | A case ends, but physical release and other holds need separate proof. | Signed court record and sheriff release event. |
A hospital move, court trip, escape, death, or temporary writ is not an ordinary community release. Keep the official wording. If the record names a receiving agency, follow that lane before stating that a person is out of custody.
Goliad County Release Record Fields
A complete request ties the departure to one booking episode. Name and date of birth help identify the person, but the booking number and case number reduce mistaken matches. The request should seek both custody history and release disposition. Sensitive fields can be redacted, and an exception may limit part of the response.
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Legal name, aliases, date of birth | Identity information used to separate people with similar names. |
| Booking number and time | The exact county-jail custody episode. |
| Arresting agency and charges | Why the booking began, not the final case outcome. |
| Bond, court, and cause number | The legal file and any pretrial release terms. |
| Actual release date and time | When staff completed the jail departure. |
| Release type and authority | The recorded reason and office or order authorizing it. |
| Destination or receiving agency | Whether the person entered the community or stayed in custody elsewhere. |
| Hold disposition and photograph | How listed detainers ended and the image tied to that booking, if releasable. |
A release reason is not a case result. Compare the Sheriff's event with the signed judgment, dismissal, or supervision order.
Request Goliad County Release Records
No official Goliad release archive was found. The direct fallback is a written request to the Goliad County Sheriff's Office under the Texas Public Information Act, Government Code Chapter 552. The Sheriff's Office lists the jail at 701 E. End St., Goliad, TX 77963, with a jail line at 361-645-8259. Ask where written public-information requests should be delivered before sending one. The research did not establish a local fee schedule or response time, so request electronic copies and a cost estimate.
- Identify the person and booking episode with full name, aliases, date of birth, booking number, and approximate dates when known.
- Ask for the booking sheet, custody chronology, actual release date and time, disposition code and legend, authority, receiving agency, hold disposition, and booking photograph.
- State that electronic copies are preferred and ask for an estimate before chargeable work begins. Do not send an unnecessary Social Security number.
- If the office withholds or redacts material, ask it to identify the applicable exception and release the nonexempt remainder.
- Match the response to the signed case record. Preserve the exact terms, dates, and agency names.
The Attorney General's request guidance explains how to direct a request to the government body that holds the record. An office need not answer legal questions or create a new report. Clear requests for existing records work best.
Correct Goliad County Release Errors
An error in an official sheriff or clerk record should be raised with the office that created it. Supply the booking sheet, signed judgment, or other source that shows the conflict. Texas Business and Commerce Code Chapter 109 creates separate accuracy, update, and correction duties for covered commercial criminal-record publishers. It also bars a covered business from taking a fee for removal, correction, or modification in the circumstances set by that law.
Chapter 109 does not force the county to publish a gallery, and it is not a general ban on booking photographs. Keep the two paths distinct. An official error goes to the sheriff or clerk. A covered commercial publisher has its own statutory notice process. Do not pay a service merely because it promises to erase an official record.
Goliad Release Court Records
Goliad combines the County and District Clerk roles. Its official clerk page separates county court from the 24th, 135th, and 267th district court docket blocks and links a local public-search portal. That makes one office a practical routing point, yet the right court still matters. Misdemeanor cases generally run through county court. Felony matters generally run through district court.
A docket shows settings, not the result. Seek the signed judgment, dismissal, bond order, sentence, jail-credit entry, probation order, or discharge-related order. Then compare it with the sheriff record for the physical exit time. The Office of Court Administration publishes distinct nondisclosure forms for several legal routes. Texas expunction under Chapter 55A and nondisclosure under Government Code Chapter 411 are different remedies. Release alone does not trigger either one.
The county clerk interface shown below illustrates that court routing and docket organization. It should not be read as proof that every criminal disposition is searchable online.
The signed file remains the source for a case outcome, while the sheriff's log supplies the actual Goliad County Jail departure.
Limit Goliad Release Record Access
Texas does not provide one generic way to “seal a release record.” Expunction under Code of Criminal Procedure Chapter 55A and an order of nondisclosure under Government Code Chapter 411 are separate remedies with different tests and effects. The fact that someone left jail does not make that person eligible for either remedy. An expunction can require covered agencies to remove qualifying records as the statute directs. Nondisclosure generally limits public disclosure of covered criminal-history information without erasing every record or every authorized use.
The Office of Court Administration's nondisclosure forms are divided among several statutory paths. Choose a form only after matching the case result and legal provision. Once an order applies, respect its limits. Do not attempt to recover restricted material from cached pages or old copies. Questions about eligibility, the right petition, or the reach of an order call for legal advice from a qualified Texas attorney.
Getting Home After Goliad Release
Goliad County operates Rural Transit at 329 W. Franklin St. The county lists 361-645-2144 and weekday hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and it instructs riders to call for a ride. This is a real local option to ask about after release. The county does not promise a jail pickup, immediate service, or an after-hours ride.
Call before relying on it. Confirm the actual release time with the jail, ask where the person will exit, and arrange a backup if processing runs late. A projected date or a court order is not a pickup appointment. The official transit page shown below supplies the service contact, not a detention transport guarantee.
The safest plan treats transportation and release confirmation as separate calls.
Find Goliad County Released Inmates
Begin with the last known authority, approximate date, and custody type. For a local booking, call the jail and ask whether the person is still physically held, released to the community, or transferred. Request the actual event time and receiving agency. Do not use emergency dispatch for a routine records question.
- Check the jail's direct answer and request the written booking and release record.
- Search Texas VINE for a custody event from a participating agency. Record the exact status, time, and reporting agency.
- Find the Goliad court case and obtain the signed order that explains the legal disposition.
- If the jail names TDCJ, BOP, ICE, or USMS, move to that agency's own search or records route.
- Reconcile conflicts by using the source closest to each event. Keep transfer, physical release, parole, and sentence discharge as separate milestones.
A person normally drops off a current roster after departure. Absence can also reflect transfer, lag, a name mismatch, or a different custodian.
The Goliad County 24-Hour Releases page explains the same-day fallback where no county feed exists. A named-person search still needs the full chain above.
Goliad TDCJ Release Search
The TDCJ Inmate Information Search contains only people currently incarcerated in a TDCJ facility. It is useful after Goliad County Jail confirms a state transfer and before the state release. It is not a lasting Texas archive of discharged people. TDCJ says its data updates on working days and is at least 24 hours old.
| Search field | Use and limit |
|---|---|
| Last and first name | Exact last name plus at least a first initial is required. |
| TDCJ number | A direct seven-digit state identifier route. |
| SID number | A Texas criminal-history identifier route. |
| Gender and race | Optional filters that help separate name matches. |
| Projected Release Date | A forecast on a current record, not proof of actual release. |
If a person disappears from the current-only result, contact TDCJ. Its email channel at pia@tdcj.texas.gov accepts a full name and TDCJ number, or exact date of birth when the number is unknown. The general information lines are 936-295-6371 and 800-535-0283 on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. After a favorable parole vote, the Review and Release Processing line is 512-406-5202.
The official screen below shows the fields and the current-incarceration warning.

A missing result must be confirmed through TDCJ records, VINE, the parole office, or the court record.
Goliad Release Notification Lanes
The Goliad sheriff page expressly directs people to Texas VINE. Search one person, compare identifiers, and note the facility, reporting agency, event time, and exact custody phrase. An alert can promptly flag release or transfer. It does not calculate a sentence or prove that charges ended. A no-result is inconclusive.
Federal and immigration systems remain separate. The BOP Inmate Locator can show a past release date and “RELEASED” for federal sentenced custody from 1982 onward, but that means only that BOP custody ended. The ICE locator searches current and some recent immigration custody with coverage limits. USMS has no equivalent public name locator, so use the federal docket, known housing facility, district office, or a records request.
Goliad Release Status Comparison
Two systems can report different facts without either being wrong. Define the authority and time before comparing them.
| Source | Best use | What it cannot prove alone |
|---|---|---|
| Goliad County Jail | Actual county departure, type, time, and receiving agency. | Final court outcome or end of later custody. |
| Goliad court file | Signed disposition, sentence, bond, or probation order. | The moment jail processing finished. |
| TDCJ current search | Current state incarceration and projected date. | A durable completed-release history. |
| Texas VINE | Reported custody events and alerts. | A certified judgment or sentence calculation. |
| BOP or ICE | Agency-specific federal or immigration status. | Freedom from all other custody or supervision. |
Goliad Jail Compliance Record
The sheriff page publishes a county-specific scanned 2025 Certificate of Compliance for Goliad County Jail. It helps identify the operating local facility and separates it from generic directory entries. It contains no name-level release history. Do not use the certificate as a roster, release list, or proof that one person left custody.
Operational compliance and individual custody are different record classes. For a person, obtain the booking and release log. For the case result, obtain the signed court file. The certificate adds local facility context only.
Goliad Release Custody Systems
Goliad County Jail is the county's only substantiated local adult detention facility. The other entries below are statewide or national custody systems that become relevant after a transfer. No TDCJ prison, BOP institution, or ICE detention center was substantiated as physically located in Goliad County.
- Goliad County Jail records local booking departures, community releases, and transfers.
- Texas Department of Criminal Justice statewide system handles people transferred into state prison and later parole or discharge.
- Federal Bureau of Prisons nationwide system covers federal sentenced custody and BOP release dates.
- ICE detention system covers civil immigration custody, transfer, release, or removal.
- U.S. Marshals Service pretrial/transport custody relies on federal courts and housing facilities rather than a public name locator.
Follow the receiving agency named in the Goliad release record. That step prevents a custodial transfer from being reported as a community release.
